UPM Blandin Native American Hardwoods Conservation and Carbon Sequestration Project

Using Smart Forestry practices, this Minnesota project maintains the ecological diversity of 175,000+ acres of natural forest by reducing harvests to improve tree carbon storage that helps mitigate climate change.

The project promotes ecologically sustainable timber production that is compatible with maintaining water quality throughout the property’s 30 miles of state-designated trout streams and 33 miles of lake and pond shoreline. It also protects the habitat of 47 bird species and over 30 species of mammals, including black bear, grey wolf, and moose.

Kootznoowoo Native Community Forestry Project

Supporting Alaskan Tribal Nations through carbon credit revenue.
This Improved Forest Management project protects 20,159 acres across Prince of Wales Island, Alaska, including 8,000 acres of rare, old-growth forest. Mammals such as Sitka black-tailed deer, black bear, mountain goat, moose, beaver, weasel, land otter, and red fox can be found, and at least 12 fish-bearing streams that are home to sockeye salmon, Coho salmon, chum salmon, pink salmon and steelhead trout.

The project is owned by the native Haida and Tlingit people and managed in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service. The carbon revenue supports the native population of about 500 living in the village of Andoon through job and scholarship opportunities.
